PLN: Topic of Interest Article

Summary:

In Gregory Gibson’s “Why America Lets the Killings Continue” advocates that gun control is the best way to stop people who commit school shootings and other horrendous actions.  Gibson starts out with a short story about how his son was killed in the Simon’s Rock College Shooting.  This prompted Gibson to write a book about it, and he suggests that people look at gun crime as a public health issue.  He goes to many public places to speak out, but believes that the government makes gun control a low priority.  He wraps up his editorial by saying that “children will continue to pay for a freedom they enjoy.”  This article expresses that gun control is the best way to stop deranged people from going out and killing children and other civilians.

Summary Response:

Gregory Gibson’s “Why America Lets the Killings Continue” advocates that gun control is the way to stop killers; however, Gibson misses the bigger point that the best way to stop killings is to find and confront a deranged person who means ill intent to those around him.  People like Gibson think gun control will keep children from dying; however, even he mentions a man in China attacked 22 kids and a teacher with a knife outside of a school.  The fact is, demonic people will always try to find a way to attack people because they are motivated to do so.  A common quote states, “guns don’t kill people, people kill people.”  The best way to stop this from happening is to find people that pose the greatest danger to people.  Gibson is wrong when he says “children will continue to pay for a freedom they enjoy,” because elders do not do anything wrong; it is the person who commits the crime’s fault because he was the one who chose to.  Gibson’s “Why America Lets the Killings Continue” presents a biased view on a controversial topic based on personal experience.  The best way to stop the killings is to find and confront deranged people and help them if it is possible.
